Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi

the-last-jediLucasfilm finally released the title of Star Wars Episode VIII this week and it is The Last Jedi. Now as it typically is with the Star Wars Community, the speculation began as to what this would mean. Is this the last of the Jedi? Is it singular or plural? Will Luke Die? Who is the last Jedi? So on and so forth. It will be a long year trying to work out what the title means. Shortly after the release of the poster Director Rian Johnson that teased the new opening crawl that shows The Last Jedi. I love this title and the use of red writing on the new poster is awesome, similar to the release of Return of the Jedi in 1983 and Revenge of the Sith 2005.

 Oscar Nominations

The 85th Academy Awards® will air live on Oscar® Sunday, February 24, 2013.Oscar nomination came out this week and no surprise that La La Land was the highest nominated movie with 14 nominations. Neill Blomkamp Alien 5

District 9 and Elysium Director Neill Blomkamp tweeted this week that the chances of his Alien movie being made would be slim. Blomkamp was planning to make a movie that would take place after James Cameron’s 1986 movie Aliens basically cancelling out Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection. The project would have brought back Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn from Aliens to better continue their story and give them a satisfying conclusion. The movie was put on hold when Ridley Scott (who created Alien in 1979) returned to the franchise with prequel movies Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant to be released this year. Scott planned on making a trilogy of prequel movies, which meant that Blomkamp would have to wait his turn. Ultimately I think this means his movies are dead and given his last two movies were not all that popular it really does not come as a surprise.

Flash Movie getting a page one rewrite

It appears as though The Flash may be one of the most popular superhero shows on Television but they just can’t get it right for the movies. The film has gone through two directors Seth Grahame Smith (Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter) and Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) and is now under going a page one re-write from Joby Harold. This also the third attempt to write a script for the movie starring Ezra Miller as the Flash. No new Director has been named. Ezra Miller appeared as the Flash in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and will be seen in this years Justice League. Come on guys just make the Flashpoint movie with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohen and move on with it. This is the one story the TV Flash can’t do well so crush it in the DCEU and restore out faith in the franchise.

Terminator Reboot/ Conclusion

one-of-the-main-percussive-sounds-of-brad-fiedel_s-score-the-metallic-beats-of-the-terminator-theme-is-not-created-by-a-synthesizer-it_s-fiedel-striking-one-of-his-cast-iron-frying1James Cameron is expected to return to the Terminator franchise with early reports claiming Tim Miller (Deadpool) is set to direct. Cameron will regain the rights to the franchise in 2019 after the rights had taken a long and crazy path over the year. Cameron directed 1984’s The Terminator that launched the career of Arnold Schwarzenegger, and then directed the highly regarded sequel Terminator 2: Judgement Day in 1991. Since then Cameron has walked away from the franchise and went on to create two of the highest grossing movies of all time, Titanic and Avatar. The suggested idea is that this will be a reboot and a conclusion, wrapping up the previous movies whilst starting the franchise down a new path. I am not sure when he will have time to work on this project since he is planning to direct four more Avatar movies

Black Panther

This week Marvel’s Black Panther began shooting in Atlanta, the same time that Avengers Infinity Wars began as well. With the start of production we got a synopsis and a few new casting announcements, Andy Serkis will return as Ulysses Claw (Avengers Age of Ultron) and Martin Freeman (Captain America Civil War). The synopsis released sets up a post Civil War movie so we can assume we will see Captain America and Winter Soldier make an appearance, and the return of an old enemy which could allude to Michael B Jordan’s character.

The Synopsis is as follows:

“Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

Given the talent in front of and behind the camera on this project I am so excited for Black Panther. Ryan Coogler is a phenomenal Director who did an amazing job with Creed but built an incredible movie in Fruitvale Station. Chadwick Boseman, Michael B Jordan and Lupita Nyong’o are all incredible young talents.

Black Panther will be in Cinemas February 2018 and stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Winston Duke and Danai Gurira.

John Wick 2 featurette

A new featurette was released that showcased the intense weapons and fight training that Keanu Reeves and the cast of John Wick 2 went through for the movie. This is an awesome video that shows the effort put into the sequel of the action hit John Wick.

David Ayer Suicide Squad

Recently a fan tweeted David Ayer to praise him for the work he did on Suicide Squad referring to it as a masterpiece. David Ayer decided to tweet the Fan back commenting on how he saw the movie, including wishing he had a time machine to change certain things. Ayer responded in an extremely tasteful way acknowledging the films faults and controversial reception. He did not start blaming anyone despite many fans supporting him and blaming Warner Brothers for their ridiculous time line and constant interference. I have a large amount of respect for Ayer and think he is an extremely talented Director and Writer.

His full comments are below.

“Thank you so much. I know it’s a controversial film, I really tried to make something different, with a look and a voice of its own,

“I took inspiration from the insanity of the original comics. Making a movie is a journey, not a straight line. I learned so much. People want what they want, and everyone has a personal vision of how each character should look and walk and talk. If you set out to make a mass appeal movie, it’s easy to end up with vanilla. But I went for it. And I know Squad has its flaws, Hell, the World knows it. Nothing hurts more than to pick up a newspaper and see a couple years of your blood, sweat and tears ripped to shreds. The hate game is strong out there.

“The movie was wildly successful commercially. And the World got introduced into some very cool characters in the DC Universe. And that success is due exactly to the wonder and power of DC, of its characters. Would I do a lot of things different? Yep, for sure.

“Wish I had a time machine. I’d make Joker the main villain and engineer a more grounded story. I have to take the good and bad and learn from it. I love making movies and I love DC. I’m a High School dropout and used to paint houses for a living. I’m lucky to have the job I have. I have to give the characters the stories and plots they deserve next time. Real talk. (And no, there isn’t a secret edit of the film with a bunch of Joker scenes hidden in a salt mine somewhere.)”
