We are about to hit the halfway point for the year and it is important to reflect on how the year has been, but also look to the future. I did a most anticipated list of 2017 at the start of the year but at that time the marketing for a lot of movies had not started. Now that we are seeing promotional campaigns and hearing buzz from film festivals, I thought I might re-evaluate the movies I am excited for.
Dates below are the Australian Release Dates
Spider-Man: Homecoming
July 6th
Still on the list, still very excited. I loved Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War and think Tom Holland could become the best On Screen Spider-Man.
Baby Driver
July 13th
Any fan of Edgar Wright’s movies should be excited for this but this movie looks awesome, the cast is fantastic and the soundtrack sounds great
Dunkirk
July 20th
This was on my Anticipated list the first time round and my anticipation has grown so much that I plan to see it in IMAX (which is expensive).
War For the Planet of the Apes
July 27th
Still on the list and early comments about the film are extremely positive.
Atomic Blonde
August 3rd
I was sold on this movie from the first Red Band trailer. I love Charlize Theron and the character she is creating. Its like a female John Wick set at the end of the Cold War.
Wind River
August 10th
Coming from the writer of Hell or High Water and Sicario, Wind River is a crime drama with a great cast and interesting story.
Logan Lucky
August 17th
I had heard nothing of this movie until the trailer dropped and I thought it looks hysterical and has a fantastic cast.
IT
September 7th
Not a horror fan but this looks fantastic.
American Assassin
September 14th
I saw the trailer for this and became engaged. It looks like it could be a fun action movie but there is potential for it to be more. The cast is pretty awesome too
Kingsman Golden Circle
September 21st
The first one was a surprise hit and I am a fan of Matthew Vaughn so I hoping this will be as good as his other movies.
Blade Runner 2049
October 5th
I am a fan of the original movie (the final cut version). Denis Villeneuve has made some incredible movies lately and they are bringing back Harrison Ford which is a plus.
Thor Ragnarok
October 26th
Hunt for the WIlderpeople was my favourite movie of 2016 and the fact that the director of that is directing Thor Ragnarok. If the trailer doesn’t get you excited I don’t know what will.
Murder on the Orient Express
November 9th
Remember all those Josh Gad and Daisy Ridley videos, they were filmed on set for Murder on the Orient Express. This has an incredible cast of new talent and Academy Award winning talent.
Detroit
November 9th
I love history movies and the Civil Rights movements had some interesting events in 1968 including the Detroit Riots. This movie has a great cast and a strong director in Katheryn Bigelow
Justice League
November 16th
Wonder Woman blew me away so me away and with Joss Whedon doing the reshoots I am eager to see what happens with this. I am not on the hype train yet but I want it to be good.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
December 14th
You have all heard me talk about Star Wars. Does this surprise any one? Rian Johnson has made some really good movies and I loved The Force Awakens, I just really want to see Luke destroy some bad guys with his green lightsaber.
Thats my list of anticipated movies for the second half of 2017. What are you excited for? let me know in the comments section below.

Thor: Ragnorok and Spiderman: Homecoming, with Justice League a close third for me. Although the IT remake is also intriguing having seen the original. Tim Curry was fantastic so it will be interesting to see skarsgards portrayal

I can’t wait for Ragnarok and what kind of movie Waititi makes. The teaser looks incredible. After Wonder Woman I am more excited for Justice League but I will hold my expectations back because I was so excited for BVS and Suicide Squad.

I’m really looking forward to Dunkirk. Pretty much right from the beginning of this year, it is the movie that I have been anticipating the most. I saw a 5 minute preview for this (not the trailer), shown before Star Wars Rogue One, and i found that preview better than the entire Star Wars movie lol 😂 Blade Runner is definitely also on my list 😊

I’m not as big on Christopher Nolan as everyone else but I’m always excited for his movies. I didn’t see the 5 minute clip but I am pumped. It has a great cast. Did you see the featurette for Blade Runner? It looks incredible

Oh yes, I saw it..and if anything it got me even more excited for it. Hopefully it will live up to what we are seeing here, but with such a great director, and Ford returning as well, I have very high hopes for it 😊

Great list! I can’t wait to see Blade Runner and I didn’t even like the original (theatrical release). That’s mainly due to Villeneuve directing . Do you think it’s worth watching the extended edition if I didn’t like the theatrical?

Thanks. He is an incredible director so I am really excited for it too. I think you can watch the Final Cut which is what I watched. It took me a while to really appreciate Blade Runner. I am not the biggest fan of it but I can see the brilliance behind it.

I’m looking forward to seeing Dawn of the Planet of the Apes which i’m already hearing good things about it. Surprisingly i’m also excited about seeing IT, i’m not big horror movie gal but the trailers have been so good! And of course Star Wars! I’m sill a bit nervous about Justice League and Thor should be fun watch.

I have enjoyed the two previous Apes movies so hopefully this is good. I feel the same way about IT, I’m not a horror fan but this looks intriguing. Of course Star Wars but it will be sad to see the final Carrie Fisher performance. I feel the same about Justice League but Joss Whedon is very talented and I think he can make it more audiences friendly.

Yeah it will be, it definitely won’t be the same going forward without her. Although I like Joss Whedon, I do prefer Zack Snyder’s style so I do hope he retains that throughout the movie.

I haven’t been a fan of Zack Snyder, he makes beautiful movies but most lack a strong story. If they keep his cinematography skills and Joss Whedon’s story telling skills then the movie can be awesome
