Star Wars The Last Jedi Trailer 1 Review

It’s hard to believe that this is the first trailer for this The Last Jedi, and the movie comes out in just over 2 months. Yes we got the first teaser back in April at Star Wars Celebration but that was just a teaser, today we got a real trailer and wow did it set the world on fire. The interesting thing about trailers is how people perceive the shots they witness in the trailer, that are taken out of the context of the film, I don’t think this trailer spoils anything about this movie, because I still have no idea whats actually going to happen. Just a heads up I am a Star Wars nerd and this might get a touch nerdy.

Much like the early trailers for The Force Awakens, the trailer for The Last Jedi uses a voice over from Supreme Leader Snoke to set the tone of the movie. This movie will definitely feel different to The Force Awakens though, as the First Order look to inflict a ma level of damage on the resistance. There is going to be a lot of loss felt on the side of the resistance in this movie.

The images of Kylo Ren in his TIE Silencer look awesome, which leads me to believe we are going to see an epic space battle not unlike Rogue One or Revenge of the Sith. I think the cutting between Kylo Ren and Leia worked fantastically and I am now more nervous that he will try and kill her during the battle. Based of the footage in this trailer, it looks like there is going to be some incredible action sequences, with the battle of Crait being a massive spectacle.

The shot that had me really excited is the footage of Finn going head to head with Captain Phasma. This was the fight that was meant to happen in The Force Awakens but got changed, and now it looks like it will be epic. We also get a quick shot of Snoke, who has been a bit of an enigma since he first appeared. We see him using what appears to be Force powers on Rey, with her not doing so well.

As intriguing as all the other footage in this trailer is though, it is the stuff between Rey and Luke that has me really interested. We haven’t seen Luke like this before, a Jedi Master who is also a broken man. Some of his dialogue doesn’t lend itself to a happy meeting with Rey, in particular his line “I’ve seen this raw strength only once before, it didn’t scare me enough then. It does now.” We also see the two of them searching for something in what appears to be an underground structure, which could be the Journals of the Whills, an ancient book. I can’t wait to see the adventure these two go on.

I am not convinced by the final scene for a few reasons. One – No one is that stupid to reveal that Rey would join the Dark Side in the damn trailer, that would be like showing the ‘I am your father’ moment in the trailer for The Empire Strikes Back. Two – The lighting actually looks a little different between the shots, which leads me to believe she is actually in Luke’s hut on Ahch-To, and she is asking for guidance. Three – She is actually in the scene with Kylo Ren but isn’t talking to him and Four – No one would be that stupid to spoil the movie in the trailer!

I loved this trailer, in fact I watched in 3 times in 10 minutes. I love this world and I can’t wait to see it on the big screen in IMAX. This trailer leaves us with some awesome imagery, a feel for what the movie will be like and some exciting teases, but does not actually give away much of the story. I am going in super hyped but not spoiled. December can’t come soon enough.

  1. I am also a massive Star Wars nerd, so no worries lol. But yes, this was a very good trailer, and it is honestly crazy that this is actually the first real trailer of the movie, since it is coming out in two months. But that said, it was well worth the wait. Don’t know about the last reveal either…I saw earlier today that Ryan Johnson the director himself was torn about the trailer, saying and in actuality warning fans that if you want to come in clean to the film, not to watch the trailer. But, let’s be honest…that’s something you can say about any trailer. I don’t think it is true either…it’s probably just taken completely out of context, but if it is….it would make for a very interesting twist. Oh well…only two months to go. We can wait that long, right?😂😂

  2. I am too a very big star wars fan and I agree with you the trailer is totally awesome, I have watched it countless times. I agree with you in the fact that I think the Rey and Kylo scene in the trailer is just to mess with us. I have a theory that Kylo will head to the light side along with Rey and try to overthrow Snoke.

    1. I liked the theory of Rey and Kylo swapping side but I don’t think they would do that. Rey is our new hero and Kylo is almost irredeemable after killing Han Solo. The audience might not like that. I cannot wait for this movie. Not long now. Thanks for the comment.
