The Last Jedi Burning Questions from a Star Wars Nerd and a Movie Fan

I sat down with a friend of mine Nick to discuss what we want to see from The Last Jedi. I have grown up a massive Star Wars nerd, loving the movies from a very young age, so naturally I have questions for The Last Jedi and things I want to see. Rather than just go full Star Wars Nerd on the situation I reached out to Nick, who likes Star Wars but isn’t a full blown fan boy like me, he instead is a massive movie fan, to see what some of his thoughts were before we go and see The Last Jedi. We stayed away from some of the more obvious questions like who are Rey’s Parents and who is Snoke?

Are we going to learn more about what happened between Return Of The Jedi and The Force Awakens?

Thirty years takes place during this time period so clearly a lot happened. It would be great to learn more about Luke and what he was doing, who the Knights of Ren are and how they recruited Ben Solo? How did the First Order come to power? I am aware that in other cannon medias this information has been shared, such as books, comics, animation and video games but I think it is important to share some of this information with the general public. I think we might learn a lot more in The Last Jedi, especially with Rey and Luke, plus Poe and Leia, so hopefully The Last Jedi will fill in some gaps.

Will we see similarities between The Last Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back?

One thing both Nick and I agree on is there are some obvious similarities between A New Hope and The Force Awakens. It definitely isn’t a rehash, and the similarities don’t bother me (except for Starkiller Base) as much as it does other people, but they do exist. Which leads us to wonder will we see similarities between The Empire Strikes Back and The Last Jedi. From the trailers we see some imagery that looks very similar but will there be thematic similarities, such as the Dark Side victories we see in Empire.

Will Han Solo’s death have an impact on the characters and the story?

J.J. Abrams said he regretted not doing a scene between Leia and Chewbacca post the death of Han Solo in The Force Awakens. He is a character that was so important to so many people so naturally his death would have a last impact, in particular for Chewie, Leia, Luke and Kylo Ren. Will this be addressed or just sort of brushed over?

How will they handle the tragic passing of Carrie Fisher?

This is a question being asked by Star Wars fans for almost a year now, since the untimely passing of Carrie Fisher. Director Rian Johnson has claimed that nothing in the movie was changed regarding the scenes with General Leia, so does that mean she survives to Episode IX? The character was originally meant to have a large role in Episode IX so that makes me wonder even more how The Last Jedi will handle this sensitive topic.

Much like the “Chewie, we’re home” moment of The Force Awakens, there is plenty of things I want to see in The Last Jedi as a Star Wars Fan.

  • I really want to see Luke Skywalker ignite his green lightsabre and show off just how powerful of a Jedi he has become.
  • We need to see a reunion of Luke and Leia on screen together, even if it is the last time.
  • I really want to learn more about the Knights of Ren and why Ben Solo became their leader and destroyed the Jedi Academy.
  • I want more resistance spaceships. I love the X-Wing but it would be awesome to see A-Wings, Y-Wings and B-Wings, along with some new ships.
  • It would be pretty awesome to see Force Ghosts of Yoda, Obi-Wan and Anakin actually maybe not him.
  • I know we are going to get it but I can’t wait to see Luke with Chewbacca and the Millennium Falcon.

  1. Well I am a huge Star Wars fan as you know: and the questions that are asked here pretty much cover my own. It will definitely also be interesting to see where Kylo Ren is going to go to from the last movie. Because clearly judging fron the trailer, his mind and conflict still hasn’t been put to rest. I also wonder what kind of new characters are going to be introduced and what impact they are going to have on the film. Oh well: we will find out soon enough: can’t wait 😀

    1. I think this movie will fix a lot of the “issues” people complain about from The Force Awakens as we get a deeper look into characters like Kylo Ren and Rey. Can’t wait mate. Less than 48 hours now
